MEA-Commerce Ministry Coordinating Response to West Asian Trade Disruptions?

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Commerce are working in close coordination to monitor and mitigate the impact of the ongoing West Asian crisis on India’s trade and supply chains. Senior officials from both ministries are holding regular inter-departmental reviews to assess disruptions in shipping routes, particularly through the Red Sea and Gulf region, and to ensure the safety of Indian vessels and cargo. The government is also in touch with Indian missions in key West Asian capitals to gather real-time intelligence on port operations and logistics movements. The Commerce Ministry is simultaneously engaging with export bodies and trade associations to identify affected sectors such as petroleum, fertilizers, and gems and jewellery. The coordinated response aims to safeguard India’s economic interests, maintain essential imports, and explore alternate trade routes amid heightened geopolitical volatility.
